Wintershall supports social and charitable organisationsTraditional Christmas donations help children in need and foster intergenerational activities / Organisations and projects in and around Kassel, Barnstorf and St. Petersburg receiving a total of 53,000 euros

Kassel. With its traditional Christmas donation, Wintershall supports locally based charitable organisations. This year the focus is on organisations that provide support for children with mental and multiple disabilities as well as social disadvantaged children. In addition, the company is also supporting a project that fosters improved intergenerational activities. Wintershall is spending a total of 53,000 euros on projects in and around Kassel, Barnstorf and St. Petersburg.

Germany’s largest internationally active crude oil and natural gas producer is spending most of the money on supporting organisations close to company sites. “As a company, we’re not only responsible for our staff but also for the people living near us. Many associations and non-profit organisations carry out excellent work in the charitable and social fields – often with limited financial means. We therefore feel that it’s very important to support them,” says Chairman Rainer Seele in explaining the company’s
motivation.

Wintershall is supporting the following organisations and projects in 2013:

  • Käthe Kollwitz School in Hofgeismar: 160 school pupils currently attend the only school for people with cognitive disabilities in the Municipal District of Kassel. As a special needs advisory and support centre, Käthe Kollwitz School also supports and advises 19 primary and secondary schools in and around Kassel. The school’s library books are currently lent out in the school corridor. Wintershall is therefore donating 15,000 euros to help the school set up its own dedicated library facilities.
  • Diakonisches Werk Kassel – "Harbour 17": The Diakonische Werk Kassel has set up the "Harbour 17 – club for kids" project. In addition to daily lunchtime meals, this will provide primary schoolchildren and their siblings with homework help, language promotion and comprehensive sport and leisure activities. Wintershall is donating 5,000 euros to maintain the afternoon supervision.
  • "Intergenerational Playground" project in Barnstorf: The day nursery, retirement home and the "Intergenerational House" are all located close by to one another in Barnsdorf. In order to foster intergenerational activities, the District of Barnstorf is planning a “multigenerational playground” for children and senior citizens. Wintershall is donating 23,000 euros, which will be spent on play and sport equipment.

In addition to donations in Germany, Wintershall is also contributing 10,000 euros to the GIVE association for international understanding. This is supporting a charitable and social project in Russia, which is one of Wintershall’s core regions. Wintershall has been active in Russia for many years and for this reason it would like to give something back as a way of saying thank you.

  • Circus Upsala in St. Petersburg: Since the year 2000, Circus Upsala has been combining professional circus and theatrical arts with social work, and above all supports children and young people from socially vulnerable groups. By training at Circus Upsala, 15 children with physical and multiple disabilities are also improving their body awareness and coordination skills. Wintershall is donating 10,000 euros to ensure that the project can also be continued in future.

Wintershall Holding GmbH, based in Kassel, Germany, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF in Ludwigshafen. The company has been active in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas for over 80 years. Wintershall focuses on selected core regions, where the company has built up a high level of regional and technological expertise. These are Europe, North Africa, South America, as well as Russia and the Caspian Sea region. In addition, these operations are complemented by the company’s growing exploration activities in the Arabian Gulf. The company employs more than 2,500 staff worldwide from 40 nations and is now Germany’s largest crude oil and natural gas producer.
