Wintershall presenting at ADIPEC 2017Wintershall successfully completes first offshore well in Abu Dhabi / Own stand at the largest oil and gas fair in the Middle East region (Hall 6, Booth 6352)

Kassel/Abu Dhabi. From 13 to 16 November 2017, Germany's largest internationally active oil and gas producer will be showcasing its activities and technological expertise at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC). With its new, interactive exhibition stand and "Discover our offshore expertise" theme, Wintershall is inviting 100,000 visitors from over 135 countries to learn about the company and find out more about its individual activities, especially in the offshore sector.

In line with this year's ADIPEC conference theme: "Forging Ties, Driving Growth", Wintershall CEO Mario Mehren will take part in the panel discussion on "C-Suite leadership – building on momentum and delivering success". Executive Board Member Martin Bachmann, responsible for exploration and production in Europe and the Middle East, and Wintershall Middle East General Manager Dr. Uwe Salge will also be representing Wintershall in panel discussions. In addition, further Wintershall employees will take part in the Technical Sessions.

Besides, the "Women in Energy" conference will be held for the fourth time in a row at ADIPEC on 16 November 2017. Here, Ingrid Karstensen, Project Advisor Global Development Support at Wintershall, will lead the panel discussion concerned with the question "Can innovative disruptive technologies transform the oil and gas industry?"

Appraisal of the Shuwaihat sour gas and condensate field

With its presence at ADIPEC, Wintershall is underlining the strategic importance of the Middle East region. The successful completion of the company's first offshore well in Abu Dhabi has recently marked another important step for Wintershall. The SH-6 well was spudded five kilometers off the coast of Shuwaihat Island in the Arabian Gulf. "I'm delighted that SH-6 was a success, both in terms of the safety and project management. We managed to complete our first offshore well in Abu Dhabi much faster than envisaged in our well-structured schedule, and with significantly lower costs," explains CEO Mario Mehren. The Shuwaihat field is located in the western part of Abu Dhabi, about 25 kilometers west of the industrial city of Ruwais.

Wintershall has been active in Abu Dhabi for several years and plans to expand its involvement in the region. To this end, in 2010 the company opened a regional representative office in Abu Dhabi, one of the major centers of oil and gas activity in the Gulf region. In June 2012, Wintershall signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Austrian OMV company regarding the technical evaluation of the Shuwaihat sour gas and condensate field.

As the operator, Wintershall relies on the highest HSE standards and has more than 40 years of experience in the safe development and production of sour gas fields. In 2015, Wintershall also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ADNOC regarding future cooperation in EOR projects that focus on research and development and technological expertise.
