Gazprom and Wintershall25 years of scientific and technological cooperation

Today in Saint-Petersburg PJSC Gazprom and Wintershall have organized a special event, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their scientific and technological cooperation program.

The companies have resumed the results of cooperation over the past period. They have efficiently implemented scientific and technological programs in the field of geological exploration, gas development and transportation, worked on projects in the following areas: intellectual property management, environmental safety monitoring, and development and implementation of modern methods and means of dispatcher's supervisory control. 

These results of collaboration are widely used by Gazprom and Wintershall Holding at the development of Yuzhno-Russkoye field and Achimov reservoirs at the Urengoyskoye field, as well as at the operation of Russian and European underground gas storage facilities and the Nord Stream pipeline.

“The cooperation between Gazprom and Wintershall Holding is based on sharing expertise and competences. The results of 25-years work are clearly seen alongside our key products: they became role models of effective and win-win partnership, opening new opportunities for further development. Today we are equipped with a wide range of ecology and technology solutions. We are ready for new challenges and for the realization of the most ambitious plans,” says Sergey Khomyakov, Deputy Chairman-Mgmt Board at Gazprom PJSC.

“Wintershall was one of the first companies to cooperate with Russia in many areas related to energy: we began to supply natural gas directly to Europe together with Gazprom; we became the first German company to be invited to jointly produce gas in Siberia. Our research and technology cooperation is the first partnership related to sharing knowledge and technologies between Russian and European oil and gas companies, which is still unique in terms of its scale and scope,” says Thilo Wieland, Wintershall's Executive Board member.

Today Gazprom and Wintershall Holding are also celebrating the 25th anniversary of their joint further training program. Over years of cooperation, more than 6,000 specialists have participated in more than 400 upgrade qualifications events.


Wintershall Holding GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF Group, for over 80 years active in the extraction and production of oil and gas. 

The main goal of Gazprom and Wintershall partnership in science and technology field is the support in solving companies’ key strategic objectives. The collaboration covers 4 areas and 26 highly specialized spheres – from the production processes automation to environmental protection and ecological safety.

The cooperation of Gazprom and Wintershall Holding in the field of personnel develops in the following areas: the organization of programs dedicated to the management of the company and personnel, as well as to economic and financial issues; workshops for vocational and medical disciplines, organization of scholarships. In 1994 the companies have launched the Committee for professional development training.
