EOR Special technologies to recover more oil
With Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, it is possible to continue producing oil when conventional production techniques are no longer adequate.
EOR methods include thermal processes, for example flooding a reservoir with steam or hot water. Thickening agents such as polymers also help to recover more oil from the reservoir. EOR methods enhance the efficiency of production. This means existing infrastructure and developed fields can be exploited commercially for longer. Overall about 50 percent of the oil in a reservoir can be brought to the surface with enhanced oil recovery techniques.
