Due to its composition, marl usually forms impermeable layers, which act as a seal over oil and gas deposits and thus prevent hydrocarbons from escaping. At the same time, its organic components mean that marl can also be the source rock in which oil and gas are formed. For the oil and gas industry, marl is therefore of twofold importance. |
