Get an insight into the structure and areas of operation of Wintershall Holding GmbH and who is responsible for it’s international business activities.

The "CEO Portfolio" is under the leadership of Dr. Rainer Seele as Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Wintershall Holding GmbH and is home to the divisions of Communications and Energy Policy, Strategic Planning, Human Resources, HSE and Quality Management.  

The "Exploration and Production" (E&P) portfolio under Martin Bachmann creates added value through the exploration, development and production of oil and gas in its core and development regions. Its business activities are conducted under five global divisions (New Business, Global Development, Global Exploration & New Ventures, Technology and Project Planning), the Business Support unit as well as five operational units (OPCO’s). The OPCO’s own the concessions and facilities (currently in Argentina, Libya, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway) and operate within their area of responsibility.

The "Finance" portfolio under the leadership of Dr. Ties Tiessen includes the divisions of Finance, Information Management, Materials Management, Legal Affairs, Taxes and Insurance as well as the operational responsibility for Wintershall Oil Schweiz AG, Logistics and Sales Gas Production.

The "Natural Gas" portfolio under the leadership of Dr. Gerhard König brings together the entire natural gas trading activities of Wintershall with the trading companies Wintershall Erdgas Handelshaus GmbH & Co. KG (WIEH), Wintershall Erdgas Handelshaus Zug AG (WIEE) and WINGAS GmbH & Co. KG. The companies in the WINGAS Group also market transport and storage capacities as well as fiber-optic cables, and operate gas pipelines and storage facilities. 

The "Russian" portfolio under the leadership of Mario Mehren brings together all Wintershall’s activities in Russia and is based in Moscow. In addition to the existing Wintershall shareholdings in Russia (Yuzhno Russkoye, Achimgaz and Wolgodeminoil), and the stake in Nord Stream, other major projects with Gazprom have recently been initiated.  This includes the company’s stake in the construction of the offshore section of the South Stream gas pipeline through the Black Sea and the joint development of two additional blocks of the Achimov formation in the West Siberian Urengoy field. Since October 2011 the expansion of the company’s Russian operations have waranted the opening of their own portfolio.
