Thinking ahead. Looking ahead. Staying one step ahead.
As Germany's largest crude oil and natural gas producer, our worldwide operations help us meet the growing demand for energy. Our people remain our most important resource, with human skills underwriting Wintershall’s successful performance. We want to introduce a few of our many talented employees:

Titkoon Goh is from Malaysia. He obtained a degree in Petroleum Engineering in London and joined Wintershall in January 2000. He successfully completed our SPEAD programme, which involved extensive training over a 24-month period internationally. With this experience under his belt, he began prospecting for oil and gas in January 2002, as a Reservoir Engineer in Libya. In 2006, he went to Argentina as senior reservoir engineer. His leisure activities include basketball, football and reading (favourite subjects including history and financial management). |

Marika Bär has worked for Wintershall for twenty-eight years, joining as an archivist in Data Processing. After six months’ parental leave in 1984, she returned to the company and underwent further training as an EDP specialist, with a particular interest in user support. In 1998, on top of her full-time professional and family commitments, Marika trained as a specialist in purchasing and materials management. Since 1999 a sharp pencil represents her new function within Wintershall: Specialist Purchasing Officer, qualified from the Chamber of Commerce. “It’s important to prove that I can still fulfil myself. Standing still means going backwards, in all areas of life,” says Marika. Movement is dominant in her leisure time too - gymnastics for the body and literature for the mind. |

For instance Claudia Kromberg. The engineer has traded the cold northern European winter for a year-round Mediterranean climate for the sake of her job. Since July 2008 she has been working as Development Manager at Wintershall in Libya. She worked there already for several years before as Senior Reservoir Engineer. Claudia Kromberg identifies and implements new projects in the Libyan Desert. Her job consists mainly of the manifold tasks of day-to-day business and interdisciplinary cooperation. Claudia Kromberg has no doubt that the E&P Industry will become even more important in the future. In her spare time, the mother of three-year-old twins is dedicated to her family. And because she likes snow and exploring the country on skis, she routinely spends her winter vacation in the mountains. |

For instance Petra Unverhaun. Since 1999 with Wintershall. The exploration geologist deals with prospecting and assessing oil and gas resources in Germany, and provides geological support for optimisation of existing production sites. A particularly thrilling experience was her assignment to Libya, where she learned a lot about culture and working practices of the country. Her motto for life: There are no problems that cannot be solved; there is only the opportunity to master challenges. She likes spending her spare time with family, or participating in sport. New ideas for her work often emerge during running, rowing, swimming and cycling. |

For instance Oksana Golovtschenko. The former scholarship-holder of the Russian Fund of German Trade and Industry has been with Wintershall since 2000. In her capacity as Human Resource Manager she has been coordinating personnel work in Russia for local and delegated employees of Wintershall Holding AG since 2002. Being able to combine her know-how of finance and personnel matters is only one of the advantages of her work. What intrigues her most about her job are intercultural cooperation and bi-lingual communication. Her professional motto is also her personal one: Solution-oriented performance, to reach best possible results within shortest time. Problems do not present an obstacle to her, rather a challenge that she gladly accepts. Oksana Golovtschenko, who loves to travel, finds a balance to her work mainly in nature. |

For instance, Trond Gravem: As Wells Project Manager, he has been responsible for the efficient and safe drilling of exploration wells in the North Sea at Wintershall in Norway since 2008. 450 people from Wintershall, drilling and service contractors are involved in the planning and execution of a well. Each well is different to the other. “That’s what’s so exciting about my job. We have to adapt ourselves to new factors for each project,” explains the father of two children. At the weekends, he loves to go on boat trips with his family on the amazing Norwegian fjords. His job – drilling for crude oil and natural gas – and his hobby – cycling – both require one key attribute: endurance! Trond Gravem has already taken part five times in the Birkebeinerrittet in Lillehammer: with over 20,000 participants, it is the largest mountain bike marathon in the world. |

For instance, Philipp Ost. Born in 1978 in Frankfurt, he studied business administration in Cologne and Dublin. He quickly turned his interest into his field of study: energy industry. After he graduated in 2007, he joined our FAST (Finance Area Start Training) program, which is a one-year development program for young recruits. “Being given the opportunity to take responsibilities early on at Wintershall was very appealing,” says Philipp Ost. He now assesses our pipeline projects, the construction of natural gas storage facilities and above all: the success of oil and gas wells. For his detailed assessments, he consults experts from our technical, operational and financial departments. “This interdisciplinary cooperation and the diversity of our projects around the world make working at Wintershall so exciting.” |

For instance, Thomas Post, born in 1987. After graduation from a German Realschule, he applied successfully in 2003 for a training course as an industrial mechanic at Wintershall in Barnstorf. Metal processing, facility engineering and on-site missions on the oil fields’ horse-head pumps were some of the subjects on the curricular. “What I find so appealing is that my career training is only just starting at Wintershall despite having finished my diverse training,” says the hobby footballer. After his training, he started by working for a year and a half in the maintenance department and got to know our natural gas storage facilities in Rehden – the largest in Western Europe. He then went on to study a course as shift foreman at the renowned Bohrmeisterschule (drilling school) in Celle. Thomas Post has already set himself another target: further training in production technologies. |

For instance, Onno Spinder. A native of the Netherlands, Onno Spinder has worked for Wintershall since 1999. Just as safety is our highest priority, Onno Spinder also lives by the “safety first” maxim. Having studied safety and environmental sciences in Utrecht, Mr. Spinder first took charge of various projects at Wintershall in the Netherlands as HSE Engineer (Health, Safety & Environmental). Today he is, as HSE & Permitting Manager, responsible for continuous improvement programs in the health, safety and environment area. Mr. Spinder also sees to it that all safety-relevant approvals are provided for our complex drilling and production projects. Further training courses regularly bring Onno Spinder up to the very latest status. Mr. Spinder enjoys motorbike-riding in his free time, and here again of course: safety is always number one! |
